KYSA TO HOST GRAND RE-OPENING OF SOCCER DOME

KAMLOOPS, BC — The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) is set to host the grand re-opening of the Warner Rentals Soccer Dome on Sunday, October 20th from 2pm to 4pm. The event is open to all members of the community.

A ribbon cutting will kick-off the grand re-opening event at 2pm, followed by KYSA’s Volunteer Appreciation awards. KYSA board members and staff will be on site cooking free hot dogs courtesy of Save On Foods. All attendees will have an opportunity to win door prizes and there will be a raffle for a chance to win $500 worth of Aberdeen Mall gift cards. Youth are encouraged to bring their soccer gear and participate in a variety of soccer activities run by Technical Director Ciaran McMahon and Senior Staff Coach Mark Bell.

“We are excited about the fresh look of the Dome and can’t wait to get started with our winter programs,” stated Candace Dodson-Willis, President of KYSA. “ Our staff and board have done a tremendous job in getting the facility ready for this event. We hope that the Dome will be a place our members want to come to play and watch soccer.”

The Warner Rentals Soccer Dome is a much needed facility in the community, allowing KYSA to run programs year-round. KYSA’s Winter Indoor Programs get underway the week of November 4th, with limited space still available. In addition to KYSA’s programming, there are a number of user groups that book space in the Dome throughout the winter.

For more information on KYSA programs or to book space in the Warner Rentals Soccer Dome, please visit www.kysa.net or contact the KYSA office at 250-376-2750.

2018 KYSA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS!

Graduating high school soccer players who are, or have been, registered with the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) are eligible to apply for one of nine scholarships the association will be awarding in 2018.

KYSA Scholarships are awarded to students proceeding from Grade 12 to a university or post-secondary institution approved by the KYSA Scholarship Awards Selection Committee and/or students already attending a post-secondary institute, but are registered with the KYSA for the 2018 season.

This year, thanks to proceeds from the KYSA’s inaugural Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Dinner held last year, the board of directors of KYSA have agreed to increase the value of the two scholarships it awards annually to $750. There are also seven other KYSA-sponsor donated awards to be given out this year.

To qualify, an applicant for a KYSA Scholarship Award must have been registered in the association for three or more seasons, not necessarily consecutive.

KYSA Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a variety of criteria, such as the applicant’s participation in school activities, their leadership qualities, sportsmanship and time spent volunteering with church or community organizations. Soccer talent is just one of the yardsticks the selectors use to determine the award recipients. A candidate’s contributions as a referee, coach or manager in the KYSA is also taken into consideration.
