Coach Education & Training

All KYSA coaches are required to meet a minimum standard of training and education as outlined below.  In addition to the mandatory standards, the KYSA provides optional opportunities for learning and growth.

Important Information about Mandatory Coaching Mandate from BC Soccer

Courses are now delivered in TWO parts.  

  • Part 1 (Theory) is an online module (roughly 1.5 hours) which can be completed at your own pace.  It MUST be completed a full TWO weeks before you can register for Part 2.  Contact the office for your course access code.
  • Part 2 (Practical) in an on-field course which must be taken in person.  Practical courses will be between 3-4 hours in length.  Contact the office for your course access code.

KYSA On Field Course Schedule for 2024

  • There is NO COST for approved KYSA coaches (contact the office for your registration access code)

ACTIVE START (U6): Wednesday, April 17th, 6pm to 8pm

FUNDAMENTALS (U7/8/9): Friday, April 12th, 6pm to 9pm

LEARNING TO TRAIN (U10 to U13): Friday, April 5th, 6pm to 9:30pm 

SOCCER FOR LIFE (U14+): Friday, April 19th, 6pm to 9:30pm

 

All team Head Coaches are required to complete the Respect In Sport - Community Leader eLearning Course.

  • This course is 2 hours in length but it may be done in small time segments as your progress is saved as you go.
  • The cost for this course is covered by the club.  Please contact office@kysa.net for your access code.
  • Once completed please notify the office so we may update your records.
  • If you have not completed this course you must do so before you application to coach can be approved.
  • If you have completed this course for another association your may import your certificate to our system by logging in to the website above.

The Making Head Way Concussion eLearning Series is designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of your athletes and is required of every KYSA coach.

Making Head Way is the National Coaching Certification Program’s (NCCP) free, online answer to the prevalence and ambiguity of concussion in sport. Parents, coaches, and athletes all benefit from knowing as much as possible about concussion and this online learning tool is designed to help coaches gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of their athletes. The Making Head Way NCCP module covers: what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and Return to Play and Return to Learn protocols.

Coaching Association of Canada

Safe, inclusive sport environments help make sport rewarding and enriching for all. Safe Sport Training gives you the knowledge and skills to create those environments by recognizing, addressing and preventing maltreatment in sport. 

The KYSA is pleased to support The Safe Sport Training module offered by the Coaching Association of Canada. This FREE, 90-minute eLearning module that KYSA requires all coaches to take, provides coaches the tools to recognize, address, and prevent maltreatment in sport. The module aligns with the principles of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport and meets Sport Canada requirements for Safe Sport education.

Supporting Positive Behaviour is a 1.5 hour e-learning module and focuses on managing group behaviour when working with kids of all abilities, particularly those who struggle with engagement in team environments and may have challenging behaviour.
